Woher kommt der Muttertag

Angefangen hat alles schon viel früher. 250 Jahre vor Christus waren es römische und griechische Göttinnen, für die eine Art Muttertagsfest abgehalten wurde. In England, zu der Zeit Heinrich des Dritten (1216-1239) stand Mutter Kirche im Mittelpunkt der Feierlichkeiten des damaligen Mothering Day.

Etwa 200 Jahre später, im mittlealterlichen England wurde um 1644 der Mothering Day verfestigt: "Every Mid-Lent Sunday is a great day at Worcester, when all the children an grantchildren meet at the head and chief of the Family and have a feast" ("Jeder Mitfasten Sonntag ist ein Ehrentag in Worcester, wenn alle Kinder und Enkelkinder sich biem Familienoberhaupt versammeln und ein Fest feiern"). An diesem Sonntag (Lätare) besuchten alle Kinder ihre Mütter (go a-mothering), brachten kleine Geschenke mit und den selbst gebackenen mothering cake (oder simnel cake).

Nach der erfolgreichen Pioniersarbeit von Anna Jarvis setzte sich der Muttertag nach dem ersten Weltkrieg auch auf dem europäischen Festland durch. Seit 1917 gibt es den Muttertag in der Schweiz, danach wurde er eingeführt in Österreich und Skandinavien. Bei uns in Deutschland wurde er erstmals 1922 gefeiert. Zur Zeit des Nationalsozialismus bekam der Muttertag einen bitteren Beigeschmack: der Ideologie entsprechend wurden die Mütter als Garantin des Fortbestandes der arischen Rasse gefeiert

Der Muttertag ist ein Festtag zu Ehren der Mütter, der weltweit gefeiert wird. Es gibt aber kein einheitliches für den Muttertag. In Österreich ist der Muttertag der zweite Sonntag im Mai. Der Muttertag 2017 in Österreich fällt also auf Sonntag, den 14. Mai 2017. An diesem Datum wird unter anderem auch in Deutschland, Liechtenstein und der Schweiz der Muttertag begangen.

Origin and History of Mother's Day in Germany

Mother’s Day is celebrated on different dates in various ways throughout the world. The idea of honoring mothers on Mother’s day was introduced by the Greeks who used to honor Rhea, the mother of Zeus. Today this festivity is observed with great fervor across the globe. It is a day meant to honor mothers and motherhood. In Germany Mother’s day is celebrated on the second Sunday in the month of May. This date is also known as Mutterstag in German language. The day was first celebrated in the year 1922. On this special occasion, kids give lovely bouquets to their moms.

Ways to celeberate Muttertag in Germany

Mother’s Day is observed with great pomp and gaiety. The day is meant to express love and gratitude. The event was declared an official German holiday in the year 1933. Until World War II, there was a tradition of honoring mothers with bronze, silver, and gold medals for producing children for the Father’s land (Vaterland). The medal was nicknamed as ‘Karnickelorden’ which means ‘Order of the Rabbit’. After the end of the war Mother’s day became a more unofficial event. Germans started gifting cards and flowers on this special occasion. It is observed on the second Sunday of May every year. Children gift elegant mother’s day cards, small souvenirs, presents and unexpected surprises to make her feel special. Family members try to be together on this special day. Hence they plan for a wonderful meal and give her a break from kitchen work.

Die Anleitung enthält Charts, für alle gängigen Maschenzahlen (60, 64, 68 und 72), enthalten ist jedoch keine Anleitung für Spitze und Ferse.

Viel Spaß mit dem Aprilmuster des Surprise Kalenders 2017 inklusive einer kleinen Überraschung! Schließlich ist ja bald Muttertag!
